Why am I here?

September 29th, 2005 at 04:12 pm

And where did I leave that drum of napalm? Because I'd rather swim in combustible fluid than worry about money issues.

There, I said it.

Money confuses me. The confusion began when I was a pre-teen. My dad would always grouse about his wallet being "stretched as thin as a drum head," then turn around and buy my mother a Mustang. It just didn't make any sense to me. I would get fussed at for wasting water because I spent too much time in the bathroom, but only 20 minutes of that time was actually spent in the shower. My dad was also the type of guy who would insult me by pointing out my weight problems in public. Loudly. Then later he would yell at me for wasting food when I wouldn't eat everything on my plate.

And people wonder why I have food and money issues.

Things have only gotten worse. Well, perhaps not COMPLETELY worse. But they certainly look bad from where I'm sitting.

I graduated from undergrad in December of 2003, and I have been without a job for more than 17 months now. My boyfriend, John, has a job working third shift at our local Super Target, but that doesn't seem to be enough to keep us out of debt. I actually own my own small business, but while it brings in a little money here and there, it isn't much to write home about.

The biggest problems we have are money management and acquisition, debt management and erradication, and saving for a rainy day. I personally also have a fear of mathematics, so that doesn't help, either. I will elaborate more on these things later.

My goals in regard to money? Get out of debt, just like most every other American I know. Having a job would be nice, or having my business make enough money to sustain me, but I don't see that happening for a while. But, speaking of my business, I have email to check and orders to make. I must go.
