$20 Challenge?

June 21st, 2006 at 02:39 pm

I have looked every where I can possibly think of for information on this, but to no avail. Since everyone seems to be doing it, I'll just go ahead and ask:

Can someone please explain what, exactly, the $20 Challenge is, and where can I find the information on when this thing first started?

Thanks in advance.

I think the aim of the $20 Challenge is to turn $20 into $5000. You start with $20 and add to it.I think most people are using savings from coupons and putting it towards the challenge.

It started on Jan. 1st, but you can start at anytime. You start with $20 and add to it anyway you want to. I pay myself for walking a mile $1, 20 flights of stairs, $1, if I stay home and don't use gas, $1. If I clip a coupon or use my advantage card, whatever I save goes into the challenge account. I save all my change and take it to the bank every few months. Any unexpected money that comes in, goes into the challenge account money which I keep track of, on paper. (I put the money in the bank once a month)
A big one for me is my elec. bill. I budget $160, but if the bill isonly $80, I put the rest of the money in my challenge acct. Come on, join us!

Part of Jeffrey's description is "Other Notes: These earnings should come from ideas beyond what you would have normally done. The goal of this challenge is to motivate you to earn a bit of extra money when you usually would not have and get you thinking about different ways that you can earn money."

I think some people count a lot of money toward the challenge that is money they would have gotten anyway. Me, I try to only count what I saved because of the challenge. I think they ways you've picked fit the idea-I just wanted to put in my two cents.

For example, one person "saved" money going out to eat by being invited to a friend's house. To me, they wouldn't have not accepted the friend's invitation prior to the challenge!!! But, if they stayed home instead of going out to eat, that's a savings.

    I can be picky sometimes.
